My Wedding Journey: How Love Grows Hope (and My Italian Wedding!) Came to Be

Hey! I’m Daniela, and I’m so thrilled you’re here at Love Grows Hope!

If you’re dreaming of a destination wedding in Italy – one that truly feels like you, bursting with authenticity, beauty, and maybe even a desire to make the world a little better – then you’ve definitely landed in the right spot. My own journey to creating this space was a bit of a whirlwind, starting not with fairytale venue tours, but quite unexpectedly, from a hospital bed in my home region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia (FVG).

A Friulian Dream & An Unexpected Turn

In 2022 I was newly engaged, settling into my new life in Amsterdam, and planning a beautiful wedding back in FVG for the following year. Then, life threw a classic curveball… A sudden accident during a family visit meant my summer became all about recovery at a local hospital. The practicalities of needing Dutch residency documents (meaning: access to healthcare) suddenly meant one thing: we had to get legally married, and fast! So, our first “I do’s” were in a quiet Town Hall ceremony – intimate and meaningful, driven by love and necessity (and yes, I still found a great dress last minute!).

Planning My Sustainable Italian Wedding Journey: Vision & Values

But that dream of the other wedding – the big, joyful one with sunshine, laughter, all our far-flung friends and family, all wrapped up in our values – that was still burning bright. Once I was back on my feet and in Amsterdam, I dove into planning. This time, it had to be just as we envisioned: a celebration in the heart of Friuli, truly reflecting our commitment to sustainability and making a positive impact.

My vision board was packed:

  • A 100% vegetarian menu showcasing FVG’s seasonal best.
  • Supporting ethical producers, like sourcing fresh mozzarella from Libera Terra farms in Caserta (my husband’s from that area, so this was super important to us!).
  • Using potted seasonal aromatic plants (basil and rosemary smelled amazing!) instead of flown-in cut flowers.
  • Giving meaningful wedding favors – beautiful notebooks from Still I Rise, supporting children’s education through our donation.
  • Having a trusted local goldsmith recycle gold we already owned into our rings.
  • Showcasing fantastic local Friulian wines and craft beers.
  • No disposable plastics from the caterer, and actually almost no disposable at all – a big one for us!

Finding that perfect spot, which turned out to be a gorgeous park at the historic Castello di Strassoldo.

The DIY Reality: Passion Meets Overwhelm

But wow, pulling off my sustainable Italian wedding from Amsterdam, and trying to find Italian suppliers who genuinely ‘got’ sustainability beyond just trendy words? That was TOUGH. Not to mention scheduling and planning arrivals, transports, stay and departures of our guests coming from other regions or abroad (most of them were)!

Finding the right people, juggling logistics, making sure every detail aligned with our values – honestly, it got pretty overwhelming.

The wedding day itself was beautiful. Our guests loved the personal touches, the stunning Friulian setting, and the incredible food. But I ended up managing so many behind-the-scenes bits that I didn’t get to just be in the moment and soak up all the joy. And later, thinking about things like my dress (gorgeous, but new, and hard to transform sustainably afterwards – although I recently found a skilled tailor willing to venture in this!), I knew that even though we’d created something special, it could have been less stressful and even more deeply purposeful. I really, really wished I’d had an expert on my side – someone who got our values and knew FVG like the back of their hand. That way, the whole experience, from planning out to coordinating suppliers and deliver our message to our guests would have probably be more complete and organic.

So, with all this experience (and my background as a travel advisor), an idea started to spark: What if I could be that guide for others?

Introducing Love Grows Hope: My Mission to You

And just like that, Love Grows Hope came to be!

This blog is where it all begins. It’s basically the resource I was dreaming of back then – a place dedicated to helping you plan your unique, authentic, sustainable, and purposeful destination wedding right here in my beloved Friuli-Venezia Giulia.

Here, I’ll be sharing:

  • Practical tips for making sustainable and ethical choices that feel good.
  • Guides to unique venues (yes, those amazing castles and vineyards! But also more off the beaten path, undiscovered locations…).
  • Spotlights on incredible local suppliers who are all about quality and responsibility.
  • Ideas for weaving in the rich culture, history, and wine of Friuli.
  • Stories about how your celebration can connect to meaningful causes and create a real impact.
  • Inspiration from real FVG weddings.

My mission is simple: to help you create a wedding day that’s unforgettable for all the right reasons – one that truly shows off your love and values, and even helps make our world a tiny bit brighter. A wedding where love truly does grow hope.

I’m so excited to share what I’ve learned (and am still learning) with you. Feel free to reach out with your thoughts!

Let’s plan something beautiful together!

Warmly,

Daniela
