A Taste of History: The Soulful, Sustainable Weddings of Villa Tissano & FVGusto

What if your wedding venue wasn’t just a beautiful backdrop, but a living story? A place where every stone holds a memory, and every dish on the table tells a tale of the land it came from. This is the magic of planning a celebration in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, and today, I’m thrilled to take you inside one of its most enchanting treasures.

I recently had an inspiring conversation with Stefania from Società Gastronomica Friulana (who you’ll see branded as FVGusto), the passionate heart behind the culinary and event experiences at the magnificent Villa Tissano, a 16th-century noble residence in the heart of the Friulian plains.

A Legacy of Passion and Place

The story of Villa Tissano and FVGusto is a story of family. For 20 years, Società Gastronomica Friulana has curated events at some of Friuli’s most prestigious locations, but their connection with Villa Tissano, which they began managing in 2016, is truly special.

The villa itself is a dream for a destination wedding. A meticulously restored 18th-century structure with parts dating back to the 1400s, it offers 20 charming rooms—perfect for hosting an intimate group of 50-100 guests. This allows you to create a true “wedcation” experience, with a welcome dinner the night before and ceremony options ranging from the town hall directly opposite to a symbolic celebration within the villa’s own evocative grounds.

This passion for hospitality began with Stefania’s father. He held a deep belief in “good food for everyone, not a luxury niche.” This ethos saw him respectfully manage historic cafes and osterias across the region before creating a complete hospitality experience at Villa Tissano, weaving together the hotel, the park, and the historic garden into a single, soulful story.

The Soul of Friuli on a Plate

At the heart of FVGusto is a profound respect for local ingredients. “We showcase true Friulian specialties,” Stefania shared. Imagine your guests discovering the delicate sweetness of San Daniele prosciutto, the unique flavour of Trieste’s prosciutto cotto nel pane (cooked ham in a bread crust), or a platter of local cheeses like the sharp Formadi Frant and wine-aged formaggio ubriaco.

Their commitment to “Km 0” (zero-kilometer) sourcing is inspiring. Fish comes directly from the lagoons of Grado, flour from a nearby mill, and meat from Cormons. They even use innovative platforms like Soplaya to discover unique local producers, ensuring every ingredient has a story and a connection to the land.

Sustainability as a Way of Life

For Stefania and her team, sustainability isn’t a trend; it’s woven into their daily practices with visible care and common sense.

Mindful Menus & Reduced Waste

“Especially after COVID, we refined our buffet service,” Stefania noted. Instead of pre-plating everything, many items are now sliced or prepared to order at the buffet. This not only guarantees incredible freshness but also significantly reduces food waste.

Conscious Materials

They have made a clear and conscious move away from single-use plastics, abandoning plastic finger food pots in favor of elegant glass.

Leveraging Natural Beauty

This is something I always champion. “Villa Tissano is already so rich and curated,” Stefania pointed out. “Only a few extra flowers may be needed to achieve a grand result.” By leaning on the venue’s inherent beauty, you naturally minimize waste and cost.

Thoughtful Vegan Options

While cherishing Friulian traditions, they have a dedicated vegan chef on staff to create innovative plant-based dishes, respecting both guest needs and the cultural importance of ethical, traditional farming in the region.

Stefania’s Advice: Trust the Terroir

When I asked for her best advice for international couples, Stefania’s passion was clear: “Let yourselves be surprised by what we can genuinely offer you from Friuli! Be open to recommendations for truly Friulian delicacies and Km 0 products – you’ll discover incredible unique flavours that go far beyond the typical Italian stereotypes.”

She also stressed the value of having a local point of reference—like a planner or an expert venue coordinator—to navigate the language and logistics, ensuring a seamless and stress-free experience.

A Perfect Pairing for Your "Love Grows Hope" Wedding

The partnership between Villa Tissano’s historic elegance and FVGusto’s authentic, mindful culinary approach offers a truly special foundation for a celebration. It’s an experience steeped in local culture, where the beauty of the surroundings is matched by the quality and thoughtfulness on the plate.

If a wedding that feels both exquisitely memorable and consciously curated sounds like your dream, then this is a story we should tell together.
